Working with a laptop
iLive Editor can run on a PC or MAC laptop or touch tablet to configure your show offline or mix live online. You can work with wired or wireless (Wi-Fi) connection. You can control a MixRack using your laptop at the same time as the Surface, or even with no Surface connected. You can connect more than one laptop to a Mixrack or use one laptop to run two sessions of Editor while connected to both FOH and monitor systems. In that case at least one system must have a Surface connected because Editor can only work with one virtual surface at a time.
Make sure your laptop meets the minimum system requirements and that the network TCP/IP addresses are compatible with the iLive system.
Always position your wireless router in line of sight of your laptop and within its specified range to ensure good reception. A long CAT5 cable can be used to position the router away from the iLive if necessary.
If you are connecting online then select 'MixRack Only' if there is no Surface connected. Select 'Surface and MixRack' if there is a Surface connected.
Two engineers can carry out different tasks simultaneously using a Surface and laptop, or even two laptops, for example FOH and monitor mixing.
Note - The iLive network handles a large amount of data while the system boots up. Surface operation can be temporarily interrupted while the laptop is starting Editor. You may notice the Surface meters and controls freeze for a few seconds while Editor boots. This does not affect the audio and control is soon restored.
Editor provides Custom Strips which lets you assign any number of layers of fader strips to create a virtual 'surface' on your laptop. This can be different to the layout of the connected physical Surface. Logical arrangement of your channels, masters and DCAs can help make live mixing with Editor very quick indeed.
